“I wonder how they are getting on?”

Wonder no more, we offer

Live Tracking

From the outside, dot-watching can seem inherently dull. Dot-watching is literally watching a dot over the course of a few days can be very monotonous. But trust us when we say that you will get hooked!

It was just last year that we took part to our first ultra-cycling event and our father in law - who has no interest whatsoever in cycling - kept messaging on the family group chat with updates on where I was, how far other participants were, where I stopped for the night, etc. Following my dot on one tab, GoogleMaps on the other and eyes on the watch he would be researching the route ahead of me, wondering if I was going to stop at the next village and find a B&B or carry on? “Surely he’ll stop, it’s getting dark”…”It looks like he pushed through”…“Oh no he’s stopped in the middle of nowhere! Maybe he had a flat? Perhaps he’s tired?!”. And then there would be me: the small slow-moving dot, with either no signal or no time to check the phone, unaware of the entertainment and nail-biting I was providing.

You can quickly see how this can become addictive, especially when it’s a friend or relative taking part!

Live Tracking at the Tor Divide:
it is still not a race

Live tracking is typically used for competitive events (i.e. races) but it is also used on several non-competitive events (e.g. bikepacking rallies) to allow friends and family to keep track of one’s progress.

Tor Divide is a time trial, a personal challenge against the route. If you want it to be.

We have decided to offer Live Tracking as optional to keep costs to a minimum for those not interested in it.

Participants will be able to share a link to the live tracking map with people at home, who will be able to see their progress on the online map.

You will be able to pick up your tracker at registration on the day.
